Wendy Phillips
Completed 2 years of a Degree in Fine Art in the late 80’s majoring in Ceramics.
Ceramic artist for 10 years then decided to devote my time to my first love painting.
I attend workshops and paint with other artists.
I moved around Australia for many years and also lived in Asia for a short time with my children. This experience of diverse landscapes and the many wonderful people I have met and continue to meet has had a significant influence in my art.
For me the colours I use in my paintings have been a celebration of my life.
I have always been attracted to the exuberant and spontaneous use of colour. For me colour has been the most exciting element to make up a picture.
I find the colours of my paintings intuitively during the painting process for my chosen subject whether it is flowers, interiors, landscape or seascapes and the occasional portrait.
I have recently moved from Darwin to Cairns where my painting was influenced by the vast harshness of the outback. However, my palette has changed to a more Tropical use of colour as I absorb the expanse of ocean and the sheer beauty of the landscape in and around Cairns.
