Robyn Baker
Robyn likes telling stories.
The visual medium of paint allows and encourages memory, escapism and imagination. Consequently, Robyn's paintings all contain something of memory within them. They might be of a certain time or place that is indelibly linked in Robyn's memory, or more often, represent the familiar figures and individuals that have impacted upon her consciousness. Robyn oftens thinks that she is involved in the narrative of her paintings "I was there - somewhere - and this is what happened - as it apeared to me".
Robyn's past and memories influence every aspect of the way she approaches and executes her work. Robyn likes to explore different ways to bring her memories, experiences and past influences to a conclusion. Her paintings are a reflection of where her heart is at that particular time.
Robyn also has to admit that the element of spontaneous enlightenment certainly influences the direction of the medium. Often she feels that she has no control of the subject and the paint. Robyn believes that these creative times produce her most interesting works.
The artwork which features her unique style of women and animals, particularly dogs, often bring smiles to people faces and creates a "must have" feeling towards her art. Robyn's work is considered very collectable and many of her pieces are acquired by visitors from overseas who fascinated by the subject matter.
