Cairns
I was born in Scotland, but raised in Australia & New Zealand after my family emigrated in 1961.
I came to discover my passion for art relatively late in life, at the age of 43, until then I had really no idea that I could even draw. It all began with a “fun” sketch of my oldest daughter, and although it looked nothing like her I enjoyed the relaxation that drawing brought with it. Soon I was taking a sketch pad with me on holidays and drawing bays, boats, buildings, birds and animals. While on holiday in Germany several years later, my partner’s niece introduced me to the idea of pen & ink drawing … I was hooked. It was shortly after that that I decided to quit my job to focus on my new-found passion and see just how far I could go with my art. I have also had the good fortune to be introduced to the world of acrylic painting by talented Cairns painter/art teacher Emma Bryant, and have been captivated by the colour sensations of this amazing medium.
