Kristin Tennyson
Currently Kristin is involved with installation, assemblage, collage and sculpture. Her practice has been based on a very personal journey. Over the last few years, her work has focused on the exploration of emotional and spiritual concepts of place. In each work she integrates maps, objects and parts of the environment found in the areas that she explores. Topographical maps of places where Kristin has lived throughout Australia play a significant role in the development of her sculptural reliefs. She begins the reliefs by thinking about what shapes people as Australians.
One connecting factor is the land that shapes our sense of place and identity. Her own connection to the land comes from her road travels throughout Australia. Maps can be a metaphor, mapping life, where you have been and where you wish to go, however, maps cannot tell you how you feel when you get there. Kristin's practice is now using people, fossil animals and fish that are connected with each memory or history of the area.
Kristin has recently had a succesful exhibition at gallery 53.
