Ingrid Turner
Ingrid is formally trained as a Science/Maths
High School teacher but has not worked in this
capacity for more than 10 years. She left teaching
to become a full-time mother but still yearned to
study. So it was she decided that her frustrated
artistic side and love of colour needed an outlet
so she embarked on a new career as an Interior
Decorator. Studying externally through the Open
Learning Institute, doing a double certificate in
Interior Design and after finishing some short
courses in small business she started her own
business called The Door Stop. There she enjoyed
a wonderful five and a half years of colour consultancy
and home decorating. Unfortunately, due
to a degenerative hearing condition it became
very difficult to continue in this very competitive
field and Ingrid decided to sell The Door Stop in
December 2000.
Ingrid’s love of painting began with some art
classes done at the Art Barn in 1999 and without
a busy business to run decided to occupy herself
with some more art education. From various
part-time courses she gained the confidence and
motivation to venture into full-time study and
enrolled in a Diploma of Visual Arts. Recently
graduated and finding that her art practice has
changed and develped considerably, Ingrid is
looking forward to a career as a professional
artist.
