George Wagner
George paints life as a dramatic dance. His figures are at once celebratory, mythical and narrative. With fiery colour and subject matter, George paints allegorical scenes that touch both timeless and contemporary issues. His symbolic figures relate the tragic and triumph with deep moving colour and construction.
The figures become actors on a surreal stage. Bright primary hues circulate through the bare bodies of George's figures. The backdrop is billowing with movement and colour. His figures are set against a metaphorical abstract space - an atmosphere, in some cases absorbs and foregrounds the subjects.
In line painting he interweaves dense space with a formula of acrylics, forming a structured relief of single lines. He blends the tribal energies of his Australian home and the Mexican Aztec's. The paintings maintain an intense wild energy that reflects George's commitment to his expressive vision.
George's work has been exhibited all over the world with his last exhibition being in New York in May 2004. That exhibition was a great success with the mythic theme "Abduction of Europa" being a sellout. In fact, George has exhibited on most continents and his work can be found in collections throughout the world.
