Christie Bouwkamp
Christie Bouwkamp, born in Eindhoven – the Netherlands, March 12, 1949. While living in Norway, 1973-1981, she developed her abstract and spontaneous style. Inspired by the intensity of the Norwegian light, as well as the outspoken brightness of colours in this landscape, she worked mainly with oil paint on canvas.
Back in the Netherlands, the year 1996 can be referred to as a year of break through.
Set free from her profession and encouraged by a new relationship Christie fully dedicated herself to the art of painting. During 1997 - 1998 she followed art classes in drawing and watercolour. In 2001 - 2002 her private art teacher introduced her to further experiment with various media.
Robert Motherwell (USA) is by far her favourite artist and major inspirator.
Christies microbiology background nourishes her special way and feels to look at nature and translate it into her paintings and photographic art.
Inspired by Nature and her first trip to Australia in 2002, her series Australian colours, are painted as if from an aerial photography point of view, or as if from looking trough a microscope in to other dimensions.
Her statement:
Style: abstract expressionism. Work: strongly process orientated. I like to experiment, to mix material in a way in which, led by me, it finds its way on the canvas. Often exciting effects appear by trial and error. Paint is directly submitted to the canvas. My motto I just do, something comes out of itself.
I want to express the moment of time, the emotion and dynamic sense. These issues are my main concern.
Her work can be found in real estate and bank offices in the Netherlands and in various private collections in the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and Australia.
Her series Reflections is part of her contemporary photographic art. Since 2005 she resides in Tropical North Queensland, Australia.
